10 ways to enjoy the perfect Lake District summer at Coniston Boating Centre

We have been incredibly lucky so far this year, enjoying some stunning sunny days on glistening Coniston Water. Hopes are high for even more to come over the summer months and we have to say, there simply isn’t anywhere better to make the most of it than right here at Coniston Boating Centre!

If you haven't been to Coniston before, think exciting Lake District watersports set in stunning surroundings with all the equipment and expertise you need to have a great day out. The team here love their boats (and bikes) and we are ready and waiting to set you off an adventure.

This year it is also a very special summer for the Lake District National Park - we're celebrating one year of being a UNESCO World Heritage site. To mark this occasion we have put together 10 ways to have a World Class #LakeDistrictSummer here at Coniston:

  1. Go Green!

We challenge you to cut carbon and visit the many sites in and around Coniston Water by bike, bus, boat or foot as often as you can during your time in the area (we’ve got the boat and bike bit covered!)

  2. Visit old to learn something new

Visit Coniston Copper mines and learn all about the history of copper in the Coniston valley. Watch our video about the history of the mines and a fantastic lottery funded Lake District National Park Coniston Coppermines project.

  3. Reach new heights

Take on the challenge of scaling Coniston Old Man, climb the 803m and return to the village and finish the day with a fine local ale and a well-earned rest.

  4. Spread the word!

Share your #LakeDistrictSummer photos of your experiences at Coniston Boating Centre on social media, this could even lead to a summer treat if we spot your efforts online.

  5. Get out on the water

We have everything you could possibly want to choose from to make a splash right here at the Boating Centre -paddle boarding, rowing, kayaking, sailing or Canadian canoeing.  Book the perfect time for you, quickly and easily online.

  6. Give something back

Help us look after this special place for generations to come. Everything you spend with us here at Coniston Boating Centre goes right back into the beautiful Lake District National Park.

  7. Spend a Lake District Pound

Have fun with the new Lake District currency and spend your Lake District Pounds here with us.
Each note is beautifully unique and designed, help support local businesses by keeping the currency local or why not take one home to keep as a memento of your visit.

  8. Surprise yourself

Do you think you could keep your balance on a paddle board? Surprise yourself by taking a challenge this summer. Our team here will give you a little lesson and set you on your way…

  9. Get outdoors!

Once you have landed back on dry land after your watersports activity why not go and discover Tarn Hows, or look for Cathedral Cave, both easily accessible from Coniston. Hire a bike and enjoy some great routes by the water and further afield.

  10. Enjoy a taste of the Lakes

Treat yourself to a traditional Lake District delicacy – a fine ale from Hawkshead Brewery or some local produce from Bluebird Café – just next to us by the jetty.

We hope these ideas have got you excited and ready to put Coniston at the top of your list for a summer adventure. Don’t forget you can book all of our boats online and pick the perfect time to suit you.

Have a fantastic #LakeDistrictSummer and we look forward to seeing you down by the lake shore very soon.
