cycle rides

Whether you are eight or eighty, fit or just want to fill your lungs with fresh Lakeland air there’s a free guided ride for you this autumn.

Looking for a great family activity that will introduce your kids to exploring by bike? This easy going “Coniston Water Shoreline Hugger” four-mile ride is ideal for young children as it’s almost entirely traffic-free and follows a beautiful cycle route along Coniston shore. There’s plenty of time to stop, paddle and perhaps have a picnic. If you don’t have bikes with you, don’t worry, you can hire them here at Coniston Boating Centre, including children’s bikes and trailers – details below.

If you’re looking for something more adventurous then there are World Heritage Coniston tours. This is a 14-mile steady ride which does a full circuit of Coniston Water, partly on the shore trail and partly on-road, returning on the secluded eastern side and passing Brantwood, home of John Ruskin.

All the rides are part of the HSBC British Cycling guided ride programme in partnership with the Lake District National Park and local authorities. British Cycling-trained leaders are your guides and are there to help you get the most out of the experience. The longer Coniston ride is designed to celebrate the successful bid for the Lake District becoming a World Heritage Site. A National Park Ranger will be on the ride to share information of the area and how and why it has achieved World Heritage status.

To book your free place on any of the rides please visit https://www.letsride.co.uk/ and enter Coniston in the search box.

To book bike hire please call us on 015394 41366. This should be done at least 24 hours in advance of the ride. Please allow a minimum of 30 minutes to park and collect your bikes and helmets before the ride start time.
